Ice Maker Options

If your household uses a lot of ice, then ownership of an ice maker can be very handy. When it comes time to purchase an icemaker there are several options available, the suitable choice for you will depend on both where you need ice, and how fast you need it.

 

The three most common forms of ice makers are under counter appliances, portable countertop models, and high end ones intended for outdoors use.

Icemakers that are installed beneath counter tops are relatively expensive. You can spend over a thousand dollars for a quality model. Whilst not the easiest to install - they install similarly to an integrated dishwasher - the end result is desirable.

These are probably the most appealing model as they look great; they seamlessly blend with your kitchens cabinet work. A bit of careful planning and you can choose one with a finish that matches other kitchen appliances such as your refrigerator.

This type of ice maker is installed with access to your homes water supply, so you never need worry about refilling them with water.

For maximum flexibility, a portable ice maker may be the best option. These units are self-contained units that simply need to be plugged in wherever a suitable power outlet can be found. Since a portable ice maker is not plumbed, they do need to be 'filled' with water to serve as the raw ingredient for the ice.

A countertop ice maker like this is great if you value the option of moving your ice machine. If you want to relocate it from your kitchen to your mini bar area it is not at all difficult. If the requirement to fill it occasionally does not faze you then these units are a great choice, and can be found for as little as two or three hundred dollars.

The final popular option when purchasing an ice cube maker is to purchase a unit intended for outdoors use. This option is perfect for homeowners building an 'outdoor kitchen' in their back yard. Be sure any unit considered has a sealed back, as otherwise the wind and rain will carry all sorts of debris inside.
A large capacity outdoor ice maker will be able to produce plenty of ice for large pool parties and other similarly well attended events.

These ice making machines that are intended for outdoor usage are not cheap. But if that is your desired application do not be tempted to re-task an indoor model, as they are not built to function effectively in extreme environments. This could also potentially expose you to health risks.

With the different ice making options available, you should have no trouble identifying a quality product capable of freezing the quantity of ice you need, in the location you desire it.
